The red foam backup pad is the only thing you will ever have to replace on your tool, and you can easily perform this task yourself in about 5 minutes with the proper 2.5mm Allen (hex) wrench. The backup pads found on lower cost DIY box store sanders tend to wear out rapidly, due to lesser grade materials, and can be difficult to obtain parts for and replace.
