Abrasive Types in This Collection 

Five sanding abrasive types cover every stage of surface preparation: 

ProFoam Abrasives - AWFS Visionary Award Winner 

SurfPrep’s most popular abrasive and recipient of the AWFS Visionary Award for innovation in surface preparation. ProFoam abrasives have an open-cell foam backing that hugs flat surfaces, profiles, and contours without gouging. The grit is mounted on foam, and under pressure it recedes to cut softer than its specified value. In actuality, an 80-grit ProFoam abrasive cuts like a 150-grit. This is the appropriate choice for fine finishing work when surface quality is more important than forceful material removal. ProFoam is the professional standard in cabinet shops and furniture restoration and refinishing operations in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. Available sizes: 3"x4", 3"x7", 5", 6", and 11" No interface pad needed. 

Film Abrasives (Blizzard) 

Blizzard Film sanding abrasives provide a uniform, long-wearing cutting surface for flat-panel manufacturing and precision finishing applications. Film abrasives cut at their rated grit value. It holds its shape under pressure. Hook & loop & PSA attachment styles are available in 3", 3"x4", 3"x7, 3"x8, 5", 6", and 11" sizes. Needs a J-hook backing pad and interface pad on the finishing sander. 

Paper Abrasives 

Three abrasive paper for sander choices are available for varied production needs. Sandstorm (yellow) is the all-around paper abrasive for woodworking and surface prep. White Lightning is a ceramic paper solution for hardwoods with a longer run life. Riptide (red) is the aggressive paper for fast stock removal and paint peeling. Hook & loop and PSA are available in 3"x4", 5", and 6" sizes. 

Screen Abrasives (Shredder Screen and SurfNet) 

Screen abrasives enable maximum dust extraction during sanding and are the standard for drywall finishing and between-coat paint sanding. You have two choices:  

  • Shredder Screen: open mesh abrasive for maximum airflow and dust extraction. Available in 3x4, 3x5, 5, and 6 inches.  
  • SurfNet: a premium net abrasive that cuts better and lasts longer than the standard sanding abrasives. Available in 3", 3"x4", 5", and 6" sizes. 

Non-Woven Abrasives 

Non-woven abrasive sanding pads lightly scuff and prepare surfaces between applications without severe scratch pattern. The pro choice for final surface preparation before finishing application in cabinet finishing, furniture restoration and paint prep. Available in 3", 3"x4", 5", 6" and 11" sizes. 

Buffing Pads 

The buffing pads are the last abrasive step in the SurfPrep series and are used to polish and refine the surface when the sanding process is done. Sizes available: 3" x 4", 5", 6". 

Variety Packs 

Not sure what grit of sanding abrasive to begin with? Variety Packs are offered in 3"x4", 3"x7", 5" and 6" sizes, with a selection of abrasive kinds for that sander size. Sold per sander size so you receive just what your machine requires.

ProFoam abrasives do not require an interface pad. Film, paper, and screen abrasive sanding pads require an interface pad when used on a finishing sander. Without one, heat transfers directly to the backup pad hooks and shortens pad life. Every abrasive sanding pad type except ProFoam needs this setup.
