Beware corners the 3×4 Ray is here! This sander and the profoam have been a welcome addition in the shop. Having a sanding pad that contours to unique surfaces without warping them is a huge production increase.

This is the sander that I keep finding different ways to use it, from sanding a live edge and leaving all the details, to sanding narrow shaker legs and not rounding over the hard edges. With the wide variety of sandpaper and foam that SurfPrep sells, the uses for the 3×4″ are endless. I just made 20 trophies on the CNC with an outline of the state of Minnesota, and this sander with the 10mm ProFoam left all the tiny details of it! I tell people that this is the sander you didn’t know you needed until you get it!

I can’t say enough about the 3”x4”Electric Ray – I’ve been using it for almost 4 years and the versatility continues to impress. My products are often odd shapes and sizes with many round edges. This sander is unlike any other for those projects. The variety of papers and foams makes it them a breeze. I’m equally impressed by the customer service. Top notch support and lightning fast shipping when I need it.

I really thought long and hard about spending this much for a sander, and whether to buy this one over other options on the market. In the end, I am extremely pleased with this purchase. I’ve been replacing all the trim in my house, stripping old paint off jambs etc., and the task of sanding and preparing for paint has been made way easier with this tool. I purchased the system with a full assortment of abrasives which was a generous selection and great starting point, but expect to spend another couple hundred dollars to buy larger quantities of the ones you need most frequently. My favorite aspect of this tool is the form factor, it is light with multiple ways to grip and I’ve sanded for hours at a time without any fatigue. The dust collection has also been phenomenal using a little Ridgid shopvac, I really don’t notice much dust after hours of hard sanding. Doing tough sanding on trim profiles and for stripping will go through abrasives quickly, so again prepare to spend a bit on those – though better technique and choice of pads/abrasives will make them last longer. I purchased some interface pads and back up pads as well as I did burn through some non padded paper and chewed up the red pad a bit already while applying way too much pressure to a small corner trying to strip away paint. I consider this part of the learning curve using this tool and not a defect and this is easily replaced. I’m really looking forward to using this to sand shaker doors, it really is a perfect tool for that job that I’ve been trying to do with a Bosch random orbital for far too long. I’ve also used it for sanding joint compound on drywall repairs and it leaves a really nice perfectly smooth and feathered surface.
