A shredder screen abrasive is an open-coat abrasive built on a polyester mesh backing rather than paper or cloth. The mesh structure allows dust and debris to pass through the abrasive surface during sanding rather than accumulating on top of it. This is what gives screen abrasives their load-free characteristic. Where a solid-backed abrasive clogs and slows, a screen abrasive keeps cutting.
